Q &A with Christina
Q. Christina, this summer one of the
RideWise Travel trainers assisted my son in
learning how to use public transportation
and is now riding safely and independently.
Now that he is back in school, I am afraid
that he might lose some of his skills. What
can we do?
A. The RideWise program can do many things
for individuals in High School or Transition
programs. Transitional staff provides travel
training to students as part of transitional
services. We in turn provide support to the
transitional staff. RideWise will provide bus
fare, resources, and training for the staff that
travel train. We currently have 5 school
districts and 48 transitional staff signed up for
the Pass Program. We also provide assistance
with group bus training, assist with bus
familiarization and provide safety presentations
to students upon the request of teachers. And if
a student has a trip that is out side school
hours, RideWise staff can provide the field
training. If any one would like additional
information or would like to sign up for any of
the resources we provide, feel free to give us a
call.

This Month’s Success Story
RideWise is a collaborative effort between TriMet and RideConnection to promote independent travel for older
adults and people living with disabilities by providing access to information, training, and support.
Using public transportation for the first time,
one can experience many fears and anxiety. A
successful trainee recently learned the route
from his job at Portland State University to the
Oregon Commission for the Blind. This young
man is legally blind and though he already
possessed excellent orientation and mobility
skills, he needed the confidence and
familiarization to learn to use the bus to this
new location. After a few times on the bus, the
young man was able to do the trip by himself
safely and independently. He is now looking
for other places that he can go using public
transportation.

Tips of the Month
Clackamas Town Center Transit Center
12000 SE 82
nd
Ave., Portland
•
The Clackamas Town Center Transit
center has changed location due to the
mall being under construction.
•
The new location is North/East of the
old Transit Center.
•
Some of the area is still under
construction. Improved pedestrian
facilities are on the way.
•
Make sure and use the marked
crosswalk for safety. Watch for
vehicles and buses while crossing to the
departure area, they now both travel on
the same out going road!
•
The curb cut is located around the
barriers to the left of this picture.
